DBIA-STL | Facilities Improvements

In 2022, the City initiated a design-build procurement process for a new Biosolids Dewatering Facility utilizing advanced centrifuge technology. A design-build team was selected through a competitive process to deliver the project. Initial efforts focused on defining the scope of work, selecting the optimal site for the new dewatering building, integrating with existing infrastructure, supporting centrifuge equipment pilot testing, developing conceptual design plans and cost estimates, and preparing the State Revolving Fund (SRF) loan application to secure project funding. By late 2023, the design-build team completed the conceptual design phase and submitted a Phase II Construction Proposal, which included detailed design, construction, commissioning, and startup of the new facility. Construction officially broke ground in spring 2024, and the project remains on schedule for completion and full startup in fall 2025.
